5% of Germans say they do not buy meat

The Max Rubner Institute (MRI) published the first results of a representative online survey for the National Nutrition Monitoring. More than 3,000 people aged 18 to 80 were surveyed online about their eating and consumption habits between September and November 2024.

According to the MRI, almost two-thirds of respondents reported a mixed diet; just over a quarter described themselves as flexitarian, meaning they do not eat meat more than twice a week. About 4% described their diet as vegetarian and around 1% said they were vegan. The analysis of this data and food consumption revealed a discrepancy: the consumption data show that around 75% of respondents eat meat more than twice a week, Eurocarne reported.
